Literally.
I paid all Php 699.00 of it.
And all the money i got on me was 700+ enough change to get me home--and that was after snatching the last Php 500.00 bill on my ATM. '-.-
I drifted to the table named "award winners"*
and I saw the book.
I saw the nice graffiti cover with a name that I already recognized. I wasn't planning to buy another (yet again) book again (since I just bought two from the same place last week *arrgh).
and I stopped.
I wanted to pinpoint the reason why am I driven to buy this book--NOW. Is it simply fetishism? I couldn't do it, it's like pissing on Marx's face--but his dead, so f*ck that--besides I have his other novel too--
then I started reading the first few pages.
I liked it. the vibe, the tone.
--but I may be just simply saying that to wash the guilt of another purchase--
I soon left. Then settled down at Starbucks to finish my reading for class next week, stayed for a couple of hours and as 10pm approached I caved. I rushed back to the mall before it closed (I left around 9:45) went inside the bookstore and bought it. It was kinda sad to actually empty my wallet, counting the remaining 20-50 peso bills inside to match the price...
On my way home I was kinda worried, pay day isn't until next next week--but I guess subconsciously I was confident that my younger sister was going to bail his older brother out of recession (later I convinced her by giving her a steep interest rate).
On the bus home, I read the foreword to the novel...and found Bolaño more and more interesting. he died young. he lived for literature, a penniless writer.
the next morning, the first thing i did was snatch it under my pillow (I like sleeping with the books am currently reading close by) and started reading it...I couldn't stop. I was really digging it!
But to be honest my feelings for the novel are mainly through personal transaction, so I can't be sure that you guys would like it as much as I do--even if I haven't finished it yet, all I wanna do is read it! the best way to describe it is because it speaks to me. and you don't really connect on that level all the time, i don't know i'd like to think it's a mystical quality of literature but whatever--Bolaño rocks.
holler back to the written word.
*Went to Fullybooked to see their (what i call) "trinkets" section for small presents I can give this Christmas. Was looking for the cutesy notebooks, moleskines (no effing way), bookmarks, pins, some books (its hard to buy books for people, you'll never know if they'll read it/like it [so screw that]) and was only successful in finding things I want for myself. LOL!
Like those nice artsy teNeus 2010 planners (but I might [just might] get a MoMa planner next yr so I'm holding off) with nice themes like artists or photos etc. And the oversized teNeus calendars...wow...I want the Art Nouveau one! for Php 1,700+ ... but I think I could settle for the smaller ones, they have Dali and Klimt bahala na. hehehe
