It's a Vampire Weekend

\ let me say this:the almost unlimited FREE consumption of music available NOW--the cusp of the 20th & 21st century--through the internet has benefited a young man from a developing nation a lot: to live through his life. There was a time when I bought albums too you know. Cassette tapes...never progressed to CDs much since I couldn't afford one with my student allowance. I remember how MP3s were a science fiction thing to me back then...c'mon! playing something with that thing you call an "MP3 player" what the hell?!

But geez when music went digital, it seemed like the world sang a chorus in unison. Coz you can listen to anything you want! Musicians from New York, Belgium, Africa, Japan, Korea--everywhere...you can listen to them! *My dad rebuked the things that I listened to once when I was a kid.

When you remember something it is not unlikely na alam mo yung mga kantang gustung0-gusto mo nun diba? hehehe

So the internet became a bridge for me to be a big fan of this NY based band

"Vampire Weekend"

I've been listening to them since the middle of last year. I was kinda a little over na with my "The Killers" phase and was in search for a new band to listen to. So I visited the music blogs for some indie buzz and the band kept being mentioned. I thought that they were like this emo band coz of the word "vampire" so I tried them first on Youtube

and boy was I wrong. The first song I heard from them is "Oxford Comma"

after hearing that booming drum beat at the beginning of the cut

the rest was history. how can anyone make a song about a punctuation and make it oh so catchy?

all the members are Ivy educated (they're all from columbia) and a batch ahead of me.

I must say, one of my biggest music idols right now is the band's lead vocalist Ezra Koenig. An english major and teacher (english majors represent!). He's the coolest!

they've been classified as "the whitest band in america" since I guess for their very preppy image...alam mo yun parang saved by the bell hehehe. And their videos have mostly this 80's feel which they don't deny naman watch the video for Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa and you'll see that it's right from the set of "Risky Business" and "Teenage Werewolf".

Their self-titled debut album is a record that i play keep my spirits up coz the beats and the riffs are just I don't know--it makes you happy. try A-Punk

or one of my personal favorites "Campus"

i swear everytime i listen to that track I imagine myself preppified in an ivy university pining for my English teacher who happens to be Keira Knightley. "how am i supposed to pretend? I never wanna see you again?"

so what's they're genre then?

pretty diverse descripts: "dorm music" and "overeducated college rock" are my favorites hehehe. and i work in a campus! so wala na tlga Vampire Weekend na tlga: For the WIN!
