I don't know if it was just my rather, "sensitive" nerves last week or my (as it appears to me) my impending mental breakdown...but last week--over my breakfast of porridge--I cried.
I was tuned in to a history channel show, about Oppenheimer and the creation of the Atom bomb...i was just about to leave for work, but decided to stay until it finished.
--i find this piece of history very intriguing--especially the "human" story of Oppenheimer... and his famous haunting line
....
and as that bomb fell on Nagasaki
seeing how Oppenheimer dreaded to unleash this power--a force only known to us from the stars--on the face of the earth
the scene cuts to an old Japanese man who survived the blast:
he relates that during the day the bomb fell he was playing hide and seek with his classmates in his school.
I was gripped at how the painful memories just made him cry, seeing his classmates burning, screaming for help.
then a miracle happened
he heard his father calling him...
father and son--reunited.
*
I lost it after that.
I fuckin' cried.
how beautiful!
how beautiful was it,
that even the most horrible human invention
was not enough to destroy the human spirit.
beautiful...
i could only honor it with my tears.
