My Sick Bed Read

I have decided to f*ck book bans and buy books whenever I feel like it (mainly because of Walter Benjamin--but that's another post ;)

So last night--I decided to spend some, despite my febrile health condition. I went to National Bookstore Quezon Avenue since they stocked copies of Mookie Katigbak's collection of poetry "The Proxt Eros"--pretty rare I tell you.

I don't know, maybe because it's Q Ave's "out of the way" location that makes it a repository of hard to find books--not to mention it's pen section ain't too shabby at all--I saw a Waterman Edson in oneof its counters! and something horrible, a L'etalon with a bent nib... obviously dropped tssk tssk tssk. They also have the parker duofold that I like in classic black as well as a healthy collection of Carenes... I could only look and admire for now.

-- anyways
back to my PRIZE find of the evening

What can I say about David Mitchell-- I first took notice of him when he was a guest author at a books podcast I follow. Mitchell was talking about "Cloud Atlas" at the time, and I was left intrigued by it. Not to mention that he came across as a nice person too hehehe.

Unfortunately the Philippines is out of stock of this book--and the only next option would be Amazon, as if. So when I saw a copy of "The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet" I immediately picked it up and was more elated to see the price--575 pesos! It's a large format paperback btw, and with a really nice cover--hindi nako nagatubili at binili ito agad.

So when I woke up this morning with a shitty feeling, I propped the book open in my belly and got hooked... if only my head didn't hurt like hell i'd continue but so far so good.

Hurrah! for sick bed reads.
