Another Profession of Literary Faith

"In an age of disbelief,
it is for the poet to provide the satisfactions of belief
in his measure and in his style"

-Richard Ford quoting Wallace Stevens

Just finished listening to Richard Ford talking about his Bascombe novels, particularly the first book "The Sportswriter". He came across as amiable--and it was really pleasant listening to him talk about his work and the writers life... and hearing him quote Stevens--candidly admitting that he tries to adhere to it more or less gives me a sense that all is not lost for the humanities again, for literature, for fiction, for the novel.

*makes me want to buy the remaining two novels of the Bascombe trilogy (I only have "The Lay of the Land" [which is also the last]).
