My First Problematique

A “Home” at the End of Exilic Return: Milan Kundera’s Novel “Ignorance”

PROBLEMATIQUE: “Ignorance” a postmodern novel that tackles the postcolonial issue of diaspora, articulates the “homing desire” experienced by diasporic individuals. This articulation happens through its enunciation of a “diaspora space”. This clearing is brought about by the novel’s handling of concepts like identity, memory, subjectivity and displacement. The “diaspora space” in the novel problematizes the meaning of “home” conveyed by a “homing desire”. This is because a diasporan’s “homing desire” may not simply mean a yearning for the homeland.

*To commemorate my first attempt to dabble in literary criticism.
I am quite happy with it. I am just glad that all my hard work payed off. I spent the better half of the semester running around libraries every weekend for this one (I even missed my mom's bday for this shit!). And alas it is finshed. my paper clocks in at 25 pages of rambling goodness. :-)
